The missing museum compass

A brass compass disappeared during a power cut. Correct the security record, use it to open the evidence box, then combine every recovered clue to identify who moved it.

Stage 1: Correct the security logs

The actual power cut lasted from 7:12 PM until 7:18 PM. Electronic badge readers could not record entries during that period.

Clock faults: The Gallery clock was 4 minutes fast. The Archive clock was 3 minutes slow. The Lobby and North Store clocks were accurate.

Four badge entries were recorded using each room's faulty displayed time:

Mina · GalleryDisplayed time: 7:15 PM
Owen · ArchiveDisplayed time: 7:11 PM
Priya · LobbyDisplayed time: 7:20 PM
Theo · North StoreDisplayed time: 7:24 PM

After correcting every clock, whose badge entry falls inside the power cut and therefore cannot be genuine?

Stage 2: Decode the evidence-box number

The security drawer contains this protocol card:

Evidence protocol
Use the false entry you just identified. The correct box number is odd, greater than that entry's corrected minute, and its two digits add up to the number of letters in the badge holder's first name.

Which box should you open?

Stage 3: Reconstruct the corrected access record

Box 31 contains the verified access worksheet. Four people entered four different rooms at four different times: 7:08, 7:14, 7:20, and 7:26 PM.

  1. Owen entered before everyone else.
  2. The Archive was entered before every other room.
  3. The North Store was entered exactly 6 minutes after the Archive.
  4. Theo entered neither the Archive nor the Gallery.
  5. Priya entered later than Theo.
  6. Mina entered later than the Workshop visitor.
  7. The Gallery was entered exactly 6 minutes after the Workshop.
  8. Priya did not enter the Gallery.
Restoration sensor: The compass moved at exactly the same time the Workshop was entered.

Who moved the compass? This is the only answer that would be scored.

Evidence 03The emergency handle was pulled after the lights failed.
Evidence 04Exactly one event occurred between Northbridge and the emergency handle.
